Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network
by John Keller

John Keller is the Director of Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado Boulder.  He received his PhD in Planetary Science from the University of Arizona and was an Associate Professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before moving to CU to focus on astronomy education research as a faculty member in Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at CU.  RECON is a collaboration with Southwest Research Institute, also in Boulder.

RECON – the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network – is a citizen science research project aimed at exploring the outer solar system. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Astronomical Sciences, this project involves teachers, students, amateur astronomers, and community members from across the Western United States to conduct coordinated telescope observations to measure the sizes of objects from a region called the Kuiper Belt.
