Presentation about the Early Universe by David Barker

David will present an overview of the early universe and what we can learn from instruments observing at different frequencies, focusing on some cutting-edge radio astronomy from the moon that may allow us to observe the cosmic Dark Ages, an era before the first stars were born that has never been observed.

David is a graduate student working with Jack Burns at CU Boulder. His research focuses on detecting the radio signal from the Dark Ages and using that signal to potentially identify exotic physics.

The meeting will be at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 Third Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501., starting at 7:00 pm.

The next LAS meeting is 7 pm next Thursday, April 19, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 Third Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501.

Dr. Tim Brown’s presentation will be “Looking Back at 60+ Years of Astronomy — Amateur, Professional, and Imaginary”.

Tim Brown is an astronomical instrument-builder and observer. His science interests include spectroscopy of extrasolar planets, and the dynamics and evolution of rotation in Sun-like stars.

Topic this month is a series of member presentations. Thus far we have a “Seestar Show and Tell”, discussion of “Comets in April”, and “Constellation of the Month”. The meeting will be at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 Third Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501.

The next Longmont Astronomical Society’s club meeting will be on Thursday, May 15, 2025, starting at 7:00 pm. We’ll have open forum member presentations. LAS members are invited to give a short (15 to 20 minute) presentation on an astronomy related topic.
